Fresh from his seventh round demolition of Christian Esquivel thus making him mandatory challenger for Shinsuke Yamanaka’s WBC bantam belt, WBC number one rated Malcom “Eagle Eye” Tunacao sits down with

Fightnews: Congratulations on your KO7 victory over Esquivel! What the next step for you?

Malcolm: Thank you Sir! I will be challenging WBC Bantam King Shinsuke Yamanaka early next year. I will be aiming at my second world championship belt, the first being the WBC Flyweight Strap which I got from knocking out Medgoen Singsurat early in my boxing career.

Fightnews: Did the fact that Pacquiao got KOed by Marquez helped in motivating you to destroy your Mexican opponent in Esquivel?

Malcolm: Well it was not an act of vengeance, it was more of trying my best to uplift the spirits of my fellow Filipinos after Pacquiao’s shocking loss. Manny is an icon in my country. People mourned for his loss. I hope my victory helped in consoling them somehow.

Fightnews: Yamanaka is one tough challenge. He defeated Vic Darchinyan and also knocked out your recent opponent Esquivel. How confident are you in your upcoming clash with him?

Malcolm: Your are right Sir. Yamanaka is young, strong and fast. He will be toughest test yet. But experience is on my side. I may be 35 but my conditioning makes me feel like I’m ten years younger. I still want to become champion. I will go for broke when I face him.

Fightnews: Any message to your fans and loved ones in your country?

Malcolm: I dedicate every victory to them. Thank you for your support. I know I am not much heard in the Philippines. I really hope my fights can be seen there. I am celebrating new year with my family in Cebu. I can’t wait to be home again. Thank you to all my friends and supporters. I want to specially mention my Kumpare Alvin Brian Go. Thanks for your support Pre. To my family especially my wife Grace, I love you and I’ll be seeing you soon!

This scribe would like to thank Malcolm Tunacao and his Japan team. Special mention goes to Mr. Alvin Brian Go of Cavite City for arranging this interview. Christmas and New year greetings as well to Miss Marilou Reyes and to Lola Remedios, get well!
