Unbeaten WBO light middleweight champion Sergiy Dzinziruk (36-0, 22 KOs) has given an exclusive interview to Fightnews.com in which he spoke about potential fights against James Kirkland, Paul Williams and more.
Hello, Sergiy. How are you?
Hello, Alex. I’m now training in the Ukraine, I’m staying in contact with my family, I feel good.
There was talk about a fight with James Kirkland on August 1st in the USA. How much this information is true?
My promoter informed me that there was an opportunity to lead fight against Kirkland on June 27th in the USA, but the fight for this date fell through. Why I don-t know. Doing the fight on August 1st is improbable. Besides, from what I understand Kirkland is in prison.
So who is your next fight against?
That exact information I don’t know. I’ll probably fight another contender although I’m not against a fight with Kirkland [if it can be done].
You’d like to fight in America?
Yes, but when when I’m offered three times less money than in Germany….you understand money solves much.
All your career you wished to fight against Oscar De La Hoya. What do you think about his retirement? Were you surprised?
No. As a boxer I understand Oscar’s decision. He is a great champion and to me as well millions it was insulting to see him get beat by younger and stronger boxers. I always wished to fight him, but I respect his decision. He leaves a legend.
With whom you would wish to fight now?
Against Daniel Santos. In the first fight with him I became the world champion. Now he’s WBA light middleweight champion. I would like to face him in a rematch and unification fight. I’m assure you that it would be great fight.
What do you think about Paul Williams, who successfully campaigns at light middleweight? There was lots of talk about that fight.
I wish to fight him, but he doesn’t want to. He’s a good boxer and a current champion. I’m ready to step into the ring with him.
