Quick punches with Tomasz Adamek

Interview & photo by Przemek Garczarczyk

The idea was a simple one. Former light heavyweight and cruiserweight world champion and current heavyweight contender Tomasz Adamek (45-2, 28 KOs) will be asked a question and must answer in his typical ring manner – quick. We started with some thoughts about his next foe on June 16 in Newark, NJ’s Prudential Center, “Fast” Eddie Chambers (36-2, 18 KOs)…

Eddie is convinced that he has quicker hands than you…

It’s about PRECISION and speed. Not just speed.

Chambers: better ring movement than you?

You must be joking.

Harder punch?

We’ll have to wait until June 16 to know.

Tougher rivals in pro career?

Easy, me – just add my fights in the light heavyweight and cruiserweight division.

What will decide the winner on June 16?

How smart and mentally strong you are.

Can fans follow your preparations on Facebook?

No – and not only because I don’t have private account.

Is June 16 the most important fight in your career?

Important but not the most important.

You did not have a choice but fight Chambers.

Not true at all. Nobody can tell me what to do, who to fight.

There’s a boxing buzz about you countryman, 22-year-old heavyweight Artur Szpilka.

Let’s see what happens in three years. You have to be careful with instant popularity.

Szpilka as an Adamek sparring partner?

Not a good idea right now. For Artur.

Mayweather Jr – Cotto winner: controversy or not?

Zero controversy. Mayweather Jr was a clear winner.

Best pound for pound fighter?

We just talked about him – Floyd.

Let’s say you are 150 pounds and have to fight “Money” – toughest problem?

How smart he is between the ropes. You cannot outsmart him.

Best heavyweight in history?

TA: You cannot name one, it’s impossible. Frazier, Foreman, Ali, Tyson, Klitschko: all of them are great.

Should the fans decide who is fighting who?

No, because they will become promoters and lose all the fun they have right now.

American or European school of boxing?

American. I never heard a fighter coming to the gym saying “I want to fight like those Europeans!” Never.

For 18 years, Fightnews.com® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
