Former WBO welterweight champion Carlos “El Indio” Quintana successfully returned to the ring to stop Yorgi Estrella by TKO at :38 of round nine. Referee Luis Pabon intervened with Estrella in bad shape and just taking shots. Quintana, who had not fought since losing to WBC welterweight king Andre Berto in April last year, returned this time in the junior middleweight division where he hopes to stay for a while before going up to 160 pounds.
On the undercard, Jonathan ‘Mantequilla’ González, Thomas Dulorme and Luis Orlando del Valle successfully defended their unbeaten marks with stoppage wins. Junior middleweight Gonzalez raised his record to 12-0 with 12 KOs after a 2:49 first round demolition of Chad Greenleaf (13-8 -1). Dulorme (9-0, 8 KOs) finished Jorge Delgado at 49 seconds of the second round. Del Valle (12-0, 10 KOs) knocked out Irvin Hernandez (2-4-1, 1 KO) at 2:49 of the sixth round.
Highly touted former Olympian jr lightweight Jose Pedraza successfully debuted with a first round KO over Felix Manuel Rivera. Pedraza is promoted by Universal Promotions in conjunction with Lou DiBella and Gary Shaw.
