Boxing took another tremendous hit today when legendary boxing scribe Budd Schulberg, 95, passed away today from natural causes in Long Island, N.Y. Schulberg is best known for his Oscar-winning screenplay of “On the Waterfront,” though his influence in the boxing world has spanned more than half a century. In 1947, Schulberg published “The Harder They Fall,” a fictionalized expose of boxing. In 2003, he was voted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame for his contributions as a journalist and historian. Schulberg will be sorely missed.
