Former WBA super bantamweight champion Rico Ramos (21-1, 11 KOs) won a crowd pleasing eight round majority decision over previously unbeaten Efrain Esquivias (16-1, 9 KOs) on Saturday night at the Sportsman’s Lodge in Studio City, California. In his first bout since losing his title against Guillermo Rigondeaux in January, Ramos had all he could handle against the aggressive Esquivias, prevailing 78-74, 78-74 on two cards, while the third card was 76-76.
In a clash of unbeaten super flyweights, Matthew Villanueva (8-0-1, 7 KOs) overcame a second round knockdown to take an eight round unanimous decision over Bruno Escalante (5-1-1, 3 KOs).
Lightweight John Molina Jr. (24-1, 19 KOs) outworked his opponent Miguel Angel Munguia (25-24-1) for the duration of their 8-round attraction and walked away with a unanimous decision, scoring 80-69 on all three judges scorecards. The world-rated lightweight contender will be fighting Antonio DeMarco for the WBC World Championship on September 8 at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif. beneath Andre Ward and Chad Dawson’s World Championship fight.
Undefeated Malik Scott (34-0, 11 KOs) went the distance against Alvaro Morales (6-11-6, 0 KOs). Scott won 60-54 on all scorecards earning his 14th decision win in his last 15 fights.
