Recent world title challenger Lee Purdy busted in money laundering scheme

Welterweight Lee Purdy (20-4-1, 13 KOs) was one of six people charged with money laundering after allegedly bilking elderly victims out of over £1 million in north Essex, England according to the Daily Gazette. Purdy is best known for blowing his chance to become a world champion on the scales in May by failing to make the 147lb limit for a fight against IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander in Atlantic City. The fight went on as a non-title affair with Purdy losing by seventh round stoppage.
