Leading USA referee Jack Reiss will be the third man in the ring when IBF middleweight champion Daniel ” Real Deal” Geale defends the title against fellow Australian Anthony ” The Man” Mundine at the Sydney Entertainment Centre, Sydney, NSW, Australia on January 30. Judges are Charlie Lucas (Australia) Ray Reed (Australia) and Tony Maretta (Australia). IBF President Daryl Peoples will be the supervisor.
Mundine won a disputed twelve round split decision over Geale in an IBO middleweight title bout in 2009. Geale later captured the IBF middleweight title by outscoring Sebastian Sylvester in 2011 and in 2012 Geale defeated Felix Sturm over twelve rounds in Germany to win the WBA title. (Sturm had made 14 successful defenses.)
Mundine stopped former world champion Bronco McKart in seven rounds in his only fight for 2012.
Geale is a solid favourite to retain the championship and take aim at super fights in 2013 with WBC champion Sergio Martinez and WBA champion Gennady Golovikin. Australian middleweight Sam “King” Soliman is IBF#1 and will clash with former WBA champion Felix Sturm in Dusseldorf, Germany on February 1st with the winner to meet the winner of the Geale vs. Mundine in May.
