The undercard for the July 3 card at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino is starting to shape up. Undefeated middleweight prospect Brandon Gonzales (12-0, 9 KOs) will face James Parison (12-1, 3 KOs) in a scheduled eight-rounder. Mexican Olympian Francisco Vargas (1-0) meets Yerington, Nevada’s Andrew Rempp (1-2-1) vs. in a four round jr. lightweight bout. Reno, Nevada’s Carlos Gaytan (1-0-1) battles Alex Rivera (2-1) from Las Vegas in a four round light heavyweight bout. Local favorite Joey Gilbert on “Contender” fame is also scheduled to fight on this card.
The main and co-main bouts will be seen on Fox Sports and Fox Sports Espanol with former champion Ulises “Archie” Solis (30-2, 21 KOs) going against Eric Ortiz (32-10, 21 KOs) in a 10 round jr. flyweight bout in the headliner. Solis is the current IBF #1 contender and the fight against his fellow countryman Ortiz is a rematch of their 2006 world title fight in which Solis won by 9th round TKO.
In the evening’s co-main event is a rematch of a welterweight war that took place in Las Vegas in 2009. Filipino welterweight “Mighty” Mark Melligan (18-2, 13 KOs) will again stand toe to toe with Mexico’s Michel Rosales (27-3, 23 KOs). Rosales was awarded the first fight by split decision. Melligan vs. Rosales is scheduled for 10 rounds.
