Shocker: Grachev KOs Sillakh in 8th

Unbeaten light heavyweight Denis “The Pirate” Grachev (12-0-1, 8 KOs) scored a spectacular eighth round knockout against previously undefeated WBC #2 contender Ismayl Sillakh (17-1, 14 KOs) on Friday night at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas. Sillakh dropped Grachev in round three, but was mostly content to pick apart Grachev from the outside and seemed headed to to a routine decision win. However, Grachev finally rocked Sillakh in the eighth with a right hand and finished him with a sustained barrage of punches. Referee Rocky Burke waved it off at 2:18 as Sillakh sank to the canvas. Sillakh had been on the verge of landing a fight with the winner of Saturday’s Hopkins-Dawson rematch.

Undefeated junior lightweight Javier “El Abejon” Fortuna (19-0, 14 KOs) destroyed previously unbeaten Yaundale “Money Shot” Evans (16-1, 12 KOs) in just 2:02 of round one. Two knockdowns and the fight was over.

For 18 years, Fightnews.com® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
