In an important bout between world contenders, IBF #5/WBA #9 junior middleweight Gabriel Rosado (20-5, 11 KOs) scored a ninth round KO over IBF #9 rated Sechew Powell (26-5, 15 KOs) on Friday night at the Sands Casino Resort in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Rosado’s relentless attack finally put Powell on the deck in round nine and after a furious follow up barrage he floored Powell again prompting referee Steve Smoger to call a halt. Time was 2:43. Rosado claimed the vacant WBO Inter-Continental light middleweight title.
Unbeaten IBF #12 welterweight Ronald Cruz (17-0, 12 KOs) pounded out a hard fought twelve round unanimous decision over Prenice Brewer (16-2-1, 6 KOs). In a good action fight, hometown hero Cruz thrilled the crowd with his aggressive style as he compiled a 118-110 win on all cards. With the win, Cruz claimed the vacant WBC Continental Americas welterweight title.
In a rematch, unbeaten light heavyweight Sergey Kovalev (18-0-1, 15 KOs) scored a brutal second round TKO over upset artist Darnell Boone (19-19-3, 8 KOs). Kovalev eked out an eight-round split decision over Boone 20 months ago, but it was all Kovalev tonight as a sustained barrage finished Boone at the 1:32 mark.
