Juarez beats Alvarado for WBC silver belt

Five-time world title challenger Rocky Juarez (30-10-1, 21 KOs) claimed the WBC silver featherweight belt by dethroning defending titleholder Rene “Gemelo” Alvarado (20-2, 14 KOs) via hard fought twelve round unanimous decision on Monday night in front of the troops at Fort Bliss’ Stout Fitness Center in El Paso, Texas. Alvarado had the edge early, but Juarez came on to win a gritty fight by scores of 117-111, 116-112, 116-112. Fightnews had it 115-113 for Juarez.

Welterweight prospect KeAndre Gibson (10-0-1, 4 KOs) scored a fourth round KO over John Nater (13-6, 10 KOs). A body shot put Nater down for the count. Time was 2:02.

Debuting welterweight Ryan “Cowboy” Karl (1-0, 1 KO) stopped outgunned Wilbert Mitchell (1-11, 0 KOs) with a barrage of punches in round two. Time was 2:00.
