Former heavyweight world title challenger and Olympic gold medalist Odlanier “La Sombra” Solis (19-1, 12 KOs) won a workmanlike twelve round unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Leif Larsen (17-1, 14 KOs) on Friday night at Universal Hall in Berlin, Germany. Solis, a heavy pre-fight favorite, did enough to win by scores of 116-112, 115-114, 117-111, but it was far from a scintillating performance.
Former WBA heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev (31-2-1, 20 KOs) scored a first round annihilation of American journeyman Mike Sheppard (20-15-1, 9 KOs). A left hand laid out Sheppard for the count.
Former WBC silver welterweight titleholder Selcuk Aydin (24-2, 17 KOs) rebounded from consecutive losses to Jesus Soto Karass and Robert Guerrero with a one-sided ten round unanimous decision over veteran Giuseppe Lauri (53-12, 31 KOs) to claim the interim PABA light welterweight title. Pretty much one-way traffic.
In a bout for the IBF super middleweight title, Uensal Arik (18-1, 18 KOs) recovered from a fifth round knockdown to stop Francis Cheka (27-6-1, 15 KOs) in round seven. A barrage of punches prompted a referee’s stoppage, which was disputed by Chaka to no avail.
