WBC interim middleweight world champion Sebastian Zbik (30-0, 10 KOs) scored a ten round unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Jorge Sebsatian Heiland (16-1, 8 KOs) on Saturday night at the o2 World Arena in Hamburg, Germany. Zbik put on a boxing clinic against WBC/WBA #12 Heiland, who was game and aggressive but couldn’t match Zbik’s technical skills. After the scores were announced in round eight, Heiland knew he needed at least some knockdowns to win, but Zbik simply never let him into the fight. Scores were 117-111, 117-111, 116-111. Zbik will now look to erase his “interim” monniker against Sergio Martinez in the USA.

WBA super middleweight champion Dimitri Sartison (27-1, 17 KOs) outpointed two-time middleweight title challenger Khoren Gevor (31-5, 16 KOs) over twelve hard fought rounds by scores of 115-112, 117-109 and 117-110. Sartison landed some good right hands against the rugged southpaw Gevor and seemed a deserving winner.

In a clash for the vacant European heavyweight championship, IBF #6/WBA #8/WBO #8 rated Alexander Dimitrenko (30-1, 20 KOs) won when the corner of overmatched Yaroslav Zavorotnyi (14-5, 12 KOs) threw in the towel in round five after Dimitrenko floored Zavorotnyi then battered him in a corner.

Former cruiserweight champion and current WBC #12/WBA #11 heavyweight contender Juan Carlos Gomez (48-2, 36 KOs) comprehensively outpointed spoiler Zack Page (21-30-2, 7 KOs) over eight by scores of 80-72 on all cards. It was Gomez first fight under the Universum banner in five years.

Former WBO super middleweight champion Karoly Balzsay (22-2, 16 KOs) knocked out Aziz Daari (24-25-4, 20 KOs) 34 seconds into round five.

Former world amateur champion “Golden Jack” Culcay (6-0, 4 KOs) was again impressive, stopping Ionut Trandafir Ilie (13-5-1, 1 KO) in round four of a light middlewight bout. Time was 2:18.

Middleweight Mariusz Cendrowski moved to 20-2-2, 7 KOs after a one-sided eight round unanimous decision over Bronislav Kubin (10-3, 5 KOs). Scores were 79-74, 79-73, 79-73.

Super welterweight prospect Arthur Matern (5-1, 5 KOs) won a tough six round unanimous decision over Semjons Moroseks (6-12-1, 2 KOs) by scores 57-56, 57-56, 58-56.

This sadly was the last boxing telecast on ZDF after the network inexplicably pulled the plug on the sport despite good ratings.

Over ZDF’s eight year collaboration with Universum Box-Promotion, the series brought us 110 mostly exciting “Universum Champions Night” events and the “Boxen im Zweiten” team of Günter-Peter Ploog, Martin Wolff and Alexander von der Groeben always delivered a first class presentation.

Universum billed the final ZDF fight card as “Danke, ZDF!” Fightnews.com seconds that notion.
