Had there been a Knockout of the Evening award, it would have been shared by bantamweight Miguel Flores and cruiserweight Craig Baker at the Houston Hobby Marriot Hotel. Flores, 17, raised his record to 3-0 (3 KOs), by deflating Edson Renteria, 0-2, for the full count with a picturesque triple left hook to the ribcage midway through the first round. Baker, 9-0 (8 KOs), torched Gabe Hayes, 1-2 (1 KO), dropping him twice with crushing overhand rights en route to a first round stoppage. In a cross-town heavyweight battle, Eugene Hill, 19-1 (15 KOs) unanimously outpointed Robbie McClimans, 7-6-2 (2 KOs), over eight hard-fought, albeit sloppy, rounds that saw as much clinching and leaning as there was boxing. In other bouts, junior welterweights Bruentre Miller, 3-1 (3 KOs) and Chris Hernandez, 3-2 (3 KOs), traded three knockdowns apiece before Hernandez was counted out in the second round. Jesus “Torrito” Rodarte, 5-0 (2 KOs), scored a four-round shutout over Miguel Delgado, 3-15-1 (3 KOs), in a lightweight bout. The fights were staged by Chris Henard Promotions.
