Uzelkov stops Codrington in six; Usyk wins debut

Former light heavyweight title challenger Vyacheslav Uzelkov (30-3, 19 KOs) scored a sixth round TKO over Jaidon “Chin Checker” Codrington (21-4, 17 KOs) to win the vacant IBO International belt on Saturday night at the Sport Palace in Kiev, Ukraine. After a good fight with decent two-way action, in round six Uzelkov staggered Codrington with a left hook and then battered him to the deck. Codrington beat the count and appeared OK to continue, but the bout was waved off by the referee over the objections of Codrington.

In his pro debut, Olympic gold medalist Oleksandr Usyk scored a one-sided fifth round KO over Felipe Romero (16-8-1, 11 KOs) in a cruiserweight bout. Usyk dropped Romero in rounds three and five and was in command all the way.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
