Concepcion wins tech decision; Arias shocks Nunez

Former WBA world champion Luis “El Nica” Concepcion (31-3, 22 KOs) scored a one-sided nine-round unanimous technical decision over Carlos “El Divino” Fonte (17-2, 14 KOs) at the Figali Plaza on Thursday on the banks of the Panama Canal. Scores were 88-83, 88-81, 88-83. Concepcion, who retained the WBC silver belt, is hoping to land a title shot against the current WBC flyweight world champion Akira Yaegashi.

In an upset, Jonathan “Aguas” Arias (15-9, 13 KOs) scored a shock second round TKO over former world flyweight title challenger Ricardo “Matematico” Nunez (26-5, 22 KOs). Arias dropped Nunez twice in the second round and got a referee’s stoppage with his follow up barrage. Time was 1:39.

Unbeaten welterweight Alberto Mosquera (21-0-2, 14 KOs) scored a fifth round KO over Fidel Monterrosa (31-9-1, 25 KOs). A body shot finished Monterrosa
