Alekseev outpoints Wilson; Charr beats Saglam

In an IBF cruiserweight eliminator that resembled a sparring session, Alexander Alekseev (24-2-1, 20 KOs) won an uneventful twelve round unanimous decision over Garrett Wilson (13-6-1, 7 KOs) on Friday night at Strada Henri Coanda in Galati, Romania. Philly fighter Wilson was never in the fight against Alekseev, a former Olympian and amateur world champion, who prevailed 117-111, 118-111, 116-112.

After a spirited two rounds, former heavyweight title challenger Manuel Charr (23-1, 13 KOs) was victorious when Yakup Saglam (28-2, 25 KOs) quit after round two with a shoulder injury.

Local heavyweight Christian Hammer (13-3, 9 KOs) won when Oleksiy Mazikin (18-9-2, 4 KOs) when Mazikin quit after round six in a bout for Hammer’s WBO European heavyweight title.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
