Nugaev, Tolmajyan knock off unbeaten fighters

In an upset, lightweight Rustam “The Mongoose” Nugaev (23-6, 13 KOs) returning from a 21 month layoff scored an eighth round KO over previously undefeated lightweight Jonathan “Inca Peruano” Maicelo (16-1, 10 KOs) on Friday night at the Chumash Resort Casino in Santa Ynez, California. In a good action fight, Nugaev pressured Maicelo throughout, finally knocking him out in the eighth with a crushing straight right. Time was 2:03. With the win, Nugaev claims the vacant USBA title.

In another upset, lightweight Gabriel “The Ghost” Tolmajyan (13-2-1, 3 KOs) scored a one-sided eight round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Jorge “Machito” Maysonet Jr. (11-1, 10 KOs). Tolmajyan outworked Maysonet to win by scores of 77-75, 80-71, 80-71. Maysonet is the son of former welterweight contender Jorge Maysonet.

Lightweight Alejandro Luna (13-0, 9 KOs) swept past Mario Hermosillo (11-10-3, 2 KOs) by scores of 40-36 over four.
