By Gabriel F.Cordero

Unbeaten super bantamweight prospect Rey Vargas (19-0, 15 KOs) won by eighth round TKO against Filipino Sylvester Lopez (21-7-2, 15 KOs) on Saturday night at the Estadio de Baseball in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, Mexico. Vargas visited the canvas for his first time in his career in the second round. The bout ended when Lopez’ corner decided not to continue the fight.

Former IBF and WBO minimumweight champion Raul “Rayito” García (34-3-1, 21 KOs) won by first round KO against Arcadio Salazar (11-15-2, 0 KOs) in a light flyweight battle.

In a stunner, female flyweight Jazmín “Dinamita” Ortega (2-2-1, 1 KO) won a ten round unanimous decision over former IBF world champion Irma “Güerita” Sánchez (28-7-1, 8 KOs).

WBC lightweight silver champion Edgar Puerta (23-4-1, 19 KOs) won by fourth round TKO against Manuel Castro when Castro’s corner called off the fight.

The card was staged by Promociones del Pueblo.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
