According to a news story that has appeared on STV, Scotland’s Ricky Burns will make the next defence of his WBO lightweight crown against Mexico’s Freddie Roach-trained Raymundo Beltran. The word is the fight will go ahead on September 7th, the likely venue to be Glasgow’s SECC. 31-year-old Beltran, 28-6(17) used to be superstar Manny Pacquiao’s sparring partner, and the puncher known as “Sugar” has won his last three fights and has not been stopped since his 4th-round TKO at the hands of Ammeth Diaz back in 2008. Burns, who was given all he could handle by Jose A Gonzalez before Gonzalez surprisingly quit on his stool after the 9th-round back in May, will be looking for a far more impressive display this time out. 30-year-old Burns is 36-2(11) and the Beltran fight will be the third defence of his 135-pound title. Beltran has boxed all over the U.S, as well as in Mexico and Panama, and he has been stopped just twice.
