The father and manager of Ricky “The Hitman Hatton” told the UK Guardian newspaper, “We won’t be messed around!” in the on-going discussions with Team Pacquiao concerning their planned May 2nd mega bout. He stated, “We have the offer of another massive fight in the summer, in the British Isles, which would bring a crowd of 80,000 or more,” said Ray Hatton. “We are extremely serious in our threat that we will pull the plug on Pacquiao and go for that alternative if that contract is not signed. We will not be messed around.” Many people are speculating that this summer bout mention by Ricky’s father could be the return and re-match of “Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather Jr. It is estimated that both Pacquiao and Hatton could earn $10-20m for a potential fight, and although no one disputes Pacquiao’s position as the “pound for pound” champion, Team Hatton have pointed to the vast army of fans that will travel to the live gate in the US and the additional UK PPV income that could see in excess of 1.0m buys, alone generating several million additional dollars to the main US PPV market. With the clock now ticking for the final negotations, this should be a key week in deciding whether one of the most anticipated fights of 2009 will take place.
