Rico Hoye unretires, eyes comeback at heavyweight

Former #1 IBF light heavyweight and world title challenger Rico “Suave” Hoye (23-3, 15 KO’s) has decided to return to the sport of boxing but this time campaign in the heavyweight division. The 38-year-old Hoye retired after a win over Akinyemi Laleye in a February 2009 cruiserweight fight. Chicago promoter Cynthia Tolaymat of CFC Promotions stated, “I am hoping to have Rico fight in Chicago before the summer ends. I would love to provide him a chance at reclaiming the #1 ranking in the world.” Hoye has put the word out that he is officially a free agent and looking for all challenges.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
