Rios-Herrera off

The junior welterweight clash between former world champion Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios and Mauricio Herrera is now off. The fight was originally scheduled for July 7th at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California and to be aired on HBO. The word is that Rios injured his shoulder in training yesterday evening. Herrera was reported to be in really good shape and training very hard for the fight. Upon receiving the news, to say Herrera was not pleased or convinced would be putting it mildly. “I dont believe he is injured at all. If he focused more on his training rather than traveling to all these fightcards all over the U.S. he wouldnt have to worry about his weight which has been a problem for him his last few fights. Hopefully Top Rank will still be able to get me on the show,” said Herrera.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
