Yesterday former IBF junior lightweight champion Robert ‘Grandpa’ Garcia hosted the first annual fundraiser at the Robert Garcia Boxing Academy in Oxnard, CA and it was a huge success. Hundreds of fan showed up to show their support, helping to raise thousands of dollars. Some of the guests in attendance included 3-time world champion the ‘Tijuana Tornado’ Antonio Margarito, current WBC middleweight champion Sergio ‘Maravilla’ Martinez, WBA #1 lightweight contender ‘Bam Bam’ Brandon Rios, IBF #1 featherweight contender Miguel ‘Mikey’ Garcia, as well as many other fighters.
The event included an amateur boxing exhibition, a car show, food, music, a 50/50 raffle, an autograph signing session, as well as many other activities. HBO’s Emmy Award winning series’24/7′ was also on hand filming throughout the event. Proceeds from the event will go to help fund annual travel and lodging expenses for the amateur boxers that train daily at the Robert Garcia Boxing Academy and will also help expand other youth activities.
