Rodrigues returns Oct. 2

By Rick Scharmberg

Unbeaten Isaac Rodrigues (17-0, 13 KOs) will face hard-hitting Samuel Miller (20-4, 17 KOs) on Saturday, October 2 in the Event Center at Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona, NY in a twelve round middleweight bout. At stake will be the vacant WBC USNBC middleweight title. Rodrigues, of Belem, Brazil and now residing in West Berlin, NJ, and Miller, of Arboletes, Colombia and now residing in La Hambra, CA, share a common opponent in former Contender participant Bryan Vera. Rodrigues defeated Vera by majority decision in his last bout, and Miller dropped a majority decision to Vera in 2007. In the co-feature, Brian Miller (8-0-4, 3 KOs), of Schenectady, NY takes on tough Ikem Orji (6-3, 2 KOs), of Laurel, MD in an eight round junior welterweight bout. The promoter is Fisticuffs Productions.

“This is going to be another explosive fight for Isaac, just like his last fight with Bryan Vera was,” said promoter Dave Escalet. “This is an opportunity for Isaac to be ranked in the top-15 of the WBC. We know that Miller is a dangerous and experienced opponent, but this is the type of fighter he has to beat to take a step in that direction. I believe in having a fighter taking it a step at a time and fight their way up. I don’t believe in protecting a fighter, only to have them get blown out in the big fight.”
