Welterweight contenders Delvin Rodriguez (24-2-2, 14KO) and Isaac Hlatshwayo (28-1-1, 10KO) spoke to reporters today in advance of Saturday’s clash for the vacant IBF welterweight championship at the Mohegan Sun Resort and Casino in Uncasville, CT. The bout between Rodriguez (IBF #2) and Hlatswhayo (IBF #3) will be a rematch of their highly entertaining draw that took place back in November of 2008.
Delvin Rodriguez: I can not wait to get into the ring come August 1st. We have been training hard for this for the past eight weeks. This is an absolute dream come true to me, to not only be fighting for the championship of the world, but to do it in front of my hometown fans. I am not going to leave any doubt this time who is the winner. I will be walking out of the ring August 1st as the new IBF welterweight champion of the world, I promise you.
Isaac Hlatshwayo: I am physically and mentally 100 percent ready to go. Come August 1st I am prepared to do what I do best, and that is to fight and to win. The last fight is water under the bridge, I can not change the outcome of that fight, but I can assure you that I am going to bring the IBF belt back with me to South Africa. Winning the belt is going to open a lot of doors for me. I want to fight the best fighters in the world, but first I must take care of Delvin Saturday and that’s what I am coming to the States to do.
