A highly motivated Alberto ‘Topo’ Rosas (31-5, 25 KOs) dethroned IBF super flyweight champion Simphiwe Nongqayi (16-0-1, 6 KOs) via six round beatdown on Saturday night at the Palenque de la Feria in Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico. A punished Nongqayi, who did a lot of trash-talking before the bout, finally could take no more and went to a knee, prompting the bout to be waved off at the :60 mark. Rosas avenged the losses of the Arce brothers Jorge and Francisco, who were both defeated by Nongqayi.

In a bantamweight clash between former world champions, Jorge Travieso” Arce (55-6-1, 42 KOs) destroyed comebacking Martin “Gallito” Castillo (35-4, 18 KOs) with a first round knockout. A shot to the body put Castillo down for the count. Time was 2:56.

Flyweight Alonso “Finito” Lòpez (6-0, 3 KOs) won a four round unanimous decision over Juan Pedro Rodriguez. All three judges scored it 40-36. Lòpez is the son of Mexican ring legend Ricardo “Finoto” Lòpez.

For 18 years, Fightnews.com® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
