Roy Jones Jr. targets Wlodarczyk

By Przemek Garczarczyk

It took Roy Jones Jr (56-8, 40 KOs) two days to arrive from Poland to the US soil because of airline troubles, but the former four-division champ has no problem of coming back.

“I’m not a youngster in this sport so battling Glazewski wasn’t really in my plans. It just happened that way,” said Jones in a interview. “However I do take my hat off to him and applaud him for a great effort. But at the end of the day, I really want a shot at the cruiserweight title. But I did promise a trifecta, so if the fans wanna use #2 up on Glazewski, I’ll have to consider it. I want the Polish public satisfied. I came to battle Kostecki but I refused to not give the fans a fight. So if I must concentrate on Glazewski and beat him more convincingly, that’s not a problem either. But I’d rather move on towards my goal.”

This goal, after beating WBC #8 Pawel Glazewski (17-1, 4 KOs) is the only belt Jones still wants to have in his extensive collection, the WBC cruiserweight title which belongs to another Polish fighter, Krzysztof “Diablo” Wlodarczyk (46-2, 33 KOs).

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
