Rubio to fight for WBC interim middleweight title?

By Gabriel F. Cordero

One source has indicated to that there has been some discussion about Marco Antonio Rubio, the current WBC middleweight mandatory title challenger, taking on either Domenico Spada or Patrick Majewaski for an interim version of the WBC belt. Unlike some of the other organizations, the WBC normally doesn’t sanction interim titles unless the reigning champion will be out of action for an extended period. With current champion Sergio Martinez likely inactive for the rest of the year due to a fracture of his left hand that he suffered in his fight with Martin Murray, an interim title is a possibility. According to the source, the fight could land on July 27 in Chihuahua, Juarez, Mexico, but as of now the fight has not been approved by the WBC.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.
