Rubio-Upshaw ready for Saturday

By Gabriel F. Cordero

Middleweight contender Marco Antonio “Veneno” Rubio expects an easy win on Saturday against American Marcus Upshaw when they meet Saturday night at “La Macarena” Center in Uruapan, Michoacan, Mexico.

Upshaw stirred things up at the press conference when he stated “Rubio will go to sleep because I speak with my fists in the ring.”

Rubio responded, “Upshaw can say whatever he wants. I have no fear. I’m the best middleweight in the world and he’ll respect me.”

The best fight of the night is expected to be a clash between prospects Mahonri “Russian” Montes and Jose “Piston” Lopez in an eliminator for the WBC Silver Championship.

Also former female world champion Arely Muciño returns against Suri “Tsunami” Tapia.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
