Fightnews.com has received information that current WBA interim bantamweight champion Hugo “Cuatito” Ruiz (30-1, 27 KOs) could defend his crown against hot unbeaten prospect Julio “Pollito” Ceja (19-0, 18 KOs) on July 7 at a venue to be determined in an event that will be organized by the Promociones del Pueblo and Sampson Boxing LLC and broadcast by Televisa. “We had all planned for Jhonny Gonzalez defend his crown on July 7 in Mexico against Salvador Sanchez II and unfortunately they wouldn’t fight,” stated Promciones del Pueblo Presidente Oswaldo Kuchle by phone. “We are a responsible company. We had a commitment to Televisa and our sponsors and we decided to make this world title fight. At this point, we can’t stop our progress and must meet the demands of the fans and sponsors.” That same night, WBA female flyweight world champion Arely Mucino will also be in action.
