Ruiz decisions Melendez

Bantamweight Jesus “Estrellita” Ruiz (20-2-2, 17 KOs) won a twelve round unanimous decision over former world title challenger Luis “Surtigas” Melendez (26-5-1, 21 KOs) on Friday night at the Auditorio Plaza Condesa, in Mexico City. Ruiz was knocked down in round three, but generally outworked Melendez, putting Melendez on the canvas in the ninth round and winning by a comfortable margin. With the victory, Ruiz claimed the WBC Latin bantamweight title.
Unbeaten lightweight Mauricio Pintor (6-0, 3 KOs) scored a third round TKO over Omar Martinez (5-3-1, 4 KOs). Pintor is the son of former world champion Lupe Pintor.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
