Russia’s Ruslan Provodnikov (22-1, 15 KOs) is one week away from the biggest fight of his career as he will be taking on undefeated WBO welterweight champion Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley Jr. (29-0, 12 KOs) of Palm Springs, California, next Saturday at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. Provodnikov continued his preparation Friday afternoon at the Wild Card gym in Hollywood as he worked out for media.
“Training camp is going great it has been perfect with a lot of hard work now we are just finishing up,” Provodnikov told Fightnews.com.
“It’s a very good fight obviously we want to present a fight that is not only competitive but interesting to watch. Ruslan is a determined guy that comes ahead when you have a style like Ruslan it has to be an interesting fight,” Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum told us.
The Siberian looks solid and was sharp at Friday’s workout as he trained with trainer Freddie Roach. “Training camp has been great, obviously Bradley will move and we will have to hunt him down. Provodnikov is in great shape and we have done everything we can to win this fight,” Roach told Fightnews.
“Freddie Roach’s work speaks for itself he has a lot of achievements in boxing. I think it’s a blessing for me to be training with Freddie everything we have done with him will show in the fight what can I say Freddie does the job well,” Provodnikov said about Roach.
In preparation for Timothy Bradley, Roach and Provodnikov have acquired the services of Steve Forbes to spar with Provodnikov. The veteran and former world champion has fought with the likes of Oscar de la Hoya, Andre Berto, Cornelius Brundage, as well as Carlos Hernandez and has been a key in preparing the Russian fighter for his fight with Bradley.
“Stevie is a very technical skilled boxer he is very quick, he can move and box. Just what we needed I needed time to adjust to him. I am very thankful he was in this training camp it’s going to be really helpful for this fight,” Provodnikov told us on sparring with Forbes.
“Steve Forbes has been the best for him this camp, Stevie has been great help to us.” Roach added.
Ruslan Provodnikov is coming off a second round KO over Jose Reynoso last June and breaking his nose in the process. The Russian fighter is ranked second by the WBO welterweight division and has a fan friendly all out aggressive style.
“It will be a good entertaining fight because of Ruslan’s style will he be able to corner Bradley and inflict damage,” Arum said.
“He is a puncher we don’t want to take that away from him but we are working more with his head movement and more defense,” Roach commented.
Bradley vs. Provodnikov will take place Saturday March 16 live on HBO from the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. For Bradley’s WBO welterweight title as he will be making the first defense of his title he won last June over Manny Pacquiao. Now Provodnikov has prepared himself and is ready for his showdown as he attempts to take the title from Timothy Bradley.
“My character and power will be my advantages for this fight. You will see on fight night and you will get what you expect,” Provodnikov concluded.
