SA flyweight boxer stabbed to death

Mbulelo Mpendu from Mdantsane near East London who fought in the flyweight division was allegedly stabbed to death over the past weekend. It was reported that the 25-year-old Mpendu was stabbed after an incident in a shebeen (unlicensed drinking establishment) in Mdantsane. Evidently he was the son of former South African flyweight champion Mveleli Luzipho but never adopted his father’s surname. Mpendu who had a reported record of 5-5-2, 1 KO fought to a second round technical draw against former South African flyweight champion Xola Sifama in his last fight on October 13, 2013.
