By Gabriel F. Cordero

It was confirmed that IBF super featherweight champion Juan Carlos Salgado (25-1-1, 16 KOs) will defend his world crown against former WBA champion Jonathan Barros (34-2-1, 18 KOs) on August 18 in the Miguel Hidalgo Gym in Puebla, Mexico in an event organized by Promociones del Pueblo. “We are confirming this event and we know it will be a great night for Mexican boxing. We are making great events and good fights to achieve export of our events for the rest of the world,” said PP President Oswaldo Kuchle.

On the undercard, Mexican prospect Ricardo Alvarez (18-1-1, 12 KOs) will face the Nicaraguan Rene Gonzalez (30-5-1, 23 KOs) for the WBC silver lightweight title and Mexican Alejandro Sanabria (32-1-1, 24 KOs) will face Japan’s Seiichi Okada (16-2, 9 KOs).

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
