Salgado, Shafikov win in Cozumel

NABF super flyweight champion Jose “Sugar” Salgado (30-2-1, 26 KOs) took a workmanlike twelve round unanimous decision to successfully defend his title against late sub Devis “El Metrallo” Perez (16-8-4, 10 KOs) on Saturday night at the Parque Andres Quintana Roo in Cozumel, Quintana Roo, Mexico.

Also, in an IBF eliminator for the #2 position, unbeaten Russian jr welterweight southpaw Denis Shafikov (31-0-1, 17 KOs) scored a twelve round unanimous decision over Albert “Tornado” Mensah (25-4-1, 10 KOs) to claim Mensah’s IBF International title. Shafikov dropped Mensah twice in the bout.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
