After hard five weeks of training in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, WBO featherweight champion Orlando “Siri” Salido will move to his native Ciudad Obregon to make final preparations for his showdown with mandatory challenger Miguel Angel “Mikey” Garciaon January 19 in Madison Square Garden in New York City.
“We’re ready,” said Salido. “I’m in great physical condition, feel very strong and the weight is no longer a factor, it’s already under control. Now it’s time to finish our preparations in Obregon with three weeks of hard work and then gradually reduce the intensity. “It will be a big fight because ‘Mikey’ is a very tough fighter, but we’re going to bring the championship back to Mexico…Garcia is a fighter on the rise with great technique and speed. I’ll be ready for anything and I really have to make the effort because my challenger doesn’t look to fight. I’ll have to attack and deal with his counterpunches. My goal is to defend (the belt) and give a great fight!”
