Salido stripped of IBF belt

12 hours before his unification fight against WBA featherweight champ Yuriorkis Gamboa, IBF champ Orlando Salido was stripped of the belt for exceeding the IBF’s maximum 10 pound weight gain rule after an 8AM weigh-in. Salido, who weighed 126 at yesterday’s weigh-in, weighed 138. The rule is intended to prevent the fighters from risking their health due to rapid weight gain. As a result the WBA title is still up for grabs for both fighters, but only Gambaoa is eligible to win the IBF belt. If Salido wins, the IBF title will be vacant.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
