WBA #5, WBA #6 ranked jr featherweight Yoandris Salinas (17-0-1, 11 KOs), is back in action on Monday facing Dominican Geysi Lorenzo (11-2, 2 KOs) in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The 25-year-old Salinas, a former Cuban amateur star guided by Miami-based Dream Team Promotions, will headline a 14 bout card, defending his WBA Fedebol crown.
Also, unbeaten WBA #10 jr middleweight Jean Carlos Prada (26-0-1, 18 KOs) of Venezuela, will cross gloves with hard-punching Dominican veteran Luis Ernesto Jose (31-9-2, 26 KOs) over 10 rounds. Three more former Cuban amateur stars brought over from Miami, namely jr middleweight Innocente Fiz (13-0, 7 KOs), Yasmany Consuegra (7-0,5 KOs) and Pedro Rodriguez (10-1,8 KOs), both heavyweights. will face local opposition.
Adding to the card will be a contingent of Puerto Rican prospects brought over by Miguel Cotto. Says Salinas’ trainer/ manager Osmiri Fernandez, “The Dream Team is happy to be branching out to the Dominican Republic where Cuban boxers are popular and Yoandris is well-known because of his amateur background.” Asked about plans for Salinas, Fernandez answered “Yoandris is knocking on the door of a world title shot. We are looking forward to that next year.”
The international card co-promoted by Miguel Cotto and Domini Boxing (Rafael Lantigua) will be held in the gymnasium of the Naval Academy in the Dominican capital.
