Salinas stops Lorenzo in 6

By Robert Coster

Up-and-coming jr featherweight Yordanis Salinas (18-0-1, 12 KOs), WBA #5, WBC #6, kept his WBA Fedebol title with a definitive TKO victory over Dominican challenger Geysi Lorenzo (11-3, 2 KOs) in the sixth round on Monday night in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Salinas came out strong, trying to make it a short night and scored a knockdown in the first round but the game Lorenzo did get up. The Cuban-born, Miami-based Salinas then proceeded to dominate his opponent in the next five rounds with superior speed, skill and power. Lorenzo’s corner did not allow him to come out for seventh round.

In another noteworthy result, Venezuelan jr middleweight Jean Carlos Prada (27-0-1, 19 KOs), WBA #10, blasted away physically smaller Luis Ernesto Jose (31-10-2, 26 KOs) in just one round. The 14 bout international card was held at the Carlos-Teo-Cruz Coliseum.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
