In a surprise, hometown favorite Juan Carlos “Zurdito” Sanchez (14-2-1, 7 KOs) won a twelve round unanimous decision to dethrone Rodrigo “Gatito” Guerrero (17-4, 10 KOs) and snatch the IBF super flyweight world title at the Union Arena in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico. Scores were 116-112, 119-109 and 115-113 for the 2011 Campeon Azteca tournament.

“I am very happy,” said Sanchez. “My dream of being a world champion has been fulfilled. I knew that few gave me an opportunity to win, but I always believed in myself and thank God Almighty.”

Guerrero said he thought he did enough to win and wants a rematch.

Also super bantamweight Daniel ¨Rositas” Rosas (13-0-1, 9 KOs) won an eight round split decision over Fernando Vargas (15-7-2, 11 KOs) and lightweight Daniel “Cañerito” Ruiz (27-4-1, 19 KOs) outpointed Mario “Pocho” Pérez (11-4-1, 8 KOs) over ten.
