Sanchez II responds to Gonzalez camp

We knew it would be coming. Here is the response of Salvador Sanchez II to the scathing statement issued earlier by Promociones del Pueblo, promoter of WBC featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez:

Salvador Sanchez II: “First of all I would like to make one thing clear, Salvador Sanchez ll is no coward. I would have never challenged world champion Jhonny Gonzalez in the press and publicly in his face if I didn’t want to fight him. Secondly, Promociones del Pueblo’s statements that they offered us $35,000 is a complete lie. They offered us 200,000 pesos, which equals a measly $15,000, which my manager Grant Elvis Phillips immediately turned down. Shortly after, they came back with another offer of $25,000 and my manager once again told them that Salvador Sanchez II will not take less than $50,000 to fight Jhonny, who is considered by some as the best featherweight in the world. We are ready to sign for the fight today and knock out Jhonny Gonzalez, who apparently knows what it’s like to be KO’d since he already has been three times. I am not going to fight for less than what I was receiving for eight-round fights in the States. I would like to thank my team and the WBC, especially Don Jose Sulaiman for supporting me. I will repeat the history of my uncle Salvador Sanchez Narvaez by winning the WBC Featherweight title.”

For 18 years, Fightnews.com® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
