Sanchez retains IBF superfly belt

IBF super flyweight champion Juan Carlos “Zurdito” Sánchez (16-2-1, 8 KOs) successfully made the first defense of his title, taking a twelve round unanimous decision over former champion Juan Alberto “Topo” Rosas (36-7, 27 KOs) on Saturday night inside the Tecate Box Tour arena in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico. Sanchez got off to a good start by dropping Rosas in round one. Rosas’ relentless pressure made Sanchez work every minute of every round, but “Zurdito” showed his class and was a clear-cut winner. Scores were 118-109, 118-109 and 120-107.

In a welterweight clash, Armando “Chato” Robles (20-1-1, 10 KOs) handed previously unbeaten Alejandro “Elegido” Barrera (19-1, 16 KOs) his first loss vis six round unanimous decision.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
