Buffalo, NY jr. lightweight hopeful Guillermo Sanchez scored a resounding third round TKO over Miguel Rodriguez Thursday night in Rochester, NY. Sanchez dominated each of the rounds, scoring a knockdown in round two and three more knockdowns in the third. Referee Sammy Viruet stopped the fight without a count after the last knockdown at 1:26 of the third of the scheduled six. Sanchez improves to 8-0 with 3 KO’s while Rodriguez drops to 7-2.
Middleweight Willie Monroe (5-0, 2 KOs) of Rochester put on a clinic in his sixth round TKO over Torrence King (1-4) of Springfield, OH. Monroe used his superior speed and talent to overwhelm King over the first four rounds. A left uppercut finally dropped King in the fifth round and a right hand from Monroe floored King a second time just before the bell. The sixth and final round was much of the same with Monroe throwing vicious uppercuts to the head and body of King. The accumulation of punches dropped King again and the follow up barrage forced a stoppage at 2:25.
Nick Brinson of Geneva raised his record to 3-0 with an impressive 4-round unanimous decision over Vernon Richardson (0-2) of Rocky Mt., NC. Scores were 40-35 and 40-36 twice for the young super middleweight.
Jr. welterweight Ruslan Khayrtoinov (3-0) of Russia also remained undefeated with a four round shutout unanimous decision over Dwayne Hardaway (0-1-1) of Rochester. Khayrtoinov’s impressive bodywork was the difference in the fight.
Jason Thompson of Brooklyn improved to 5-3 with a first round TKO over Marcus Hall of Rochester. A right hand to the head shook Hall early in the round, which he never fully recovered from. A left hook from Thompson floored Hall for a count of nine and after complaining to referee Ken Zimmer about not being able to hear the fight was stopped. The time was 1:20 of the first of four scheduled rounds. Hall slides to 2-1.
In a 6-round woman’s featherweight contest, Adawirky Lopez of Tampa took a majority decision from Ela Nunez of Rochester. Scores were 58-56, 59-55 and 57-57. Lopez raises her record to 5-1 while Nunez drops to 9-5.
