Santiago vs. Venegas ends in no contest; “Big Chief” Fitch decisions Bailey

Results from Saturday Night July 13, 2013, Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack & Resort, Chester, WV

What was heating up as a classic Puerto Rico vs. Mexico Welterweight barnburner ended prematurely shortly before the bell to end the 3rd round (of a scheduled eighty) after Wilkins “The Hispanic Hurricane” Santiago suffered a gash to the eye as a result of an unintentional head butt vs. Gilbert “Gordo” Venegas. The ringside physician ruled Santiago unable to continue ending the bout officially as a no contest unfortunately for both combatants.

Super Middleweight “Big Chief” Morgan Fitch improved to 10-0, 4 KOs with a sound six round unanimous decision over gatekeeper Billy Bailey.

Jr. welterweights Billy “Hutch” Hutchinson and Angel “The White Tiger” entertained the crowd over six rounds with Hutchinson claiming a hard fought unanimous decision.

Heavyweights Nick “The Stoneman” Firtha and Robert “Big Philly” Hawkins went back-and-forth with the six round affair ending in a majority decision for Firtha.

Jr. Middleweights Joey “The Hitman” Holt and Anthony Kelly fought a competitive 4 round bout with Holt winning by unanimous decision.

The opening bout ended in exciting fashion when cruiserweight Greg Brady landed the perfect one shot KO over Travis Reeves in the third round (scheduled for four). Up to the point of the boom, the bout was very well fought by both fighters.

The event was promoted by Roy Jones Jr. Presents in association with TNT Promotions.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
