On November 14, at Sports Centre of Malacaragonis (Sardinia Island, Italy), Salvatore and Christian Cherchi’s OPI 2000 company will stage a boxing show. In the main event, Andrea Sarritzu will fight Christophe Rodrigues for the vacant European flyweight title. The two boxers already fought three times: the first battle was ruled a draw, while the following two were won by Sarritzu. In boxing, styles make fights and that’s why the Frenchman will be a tough opponent for the Italian even if Sarritzu is more talented, has a bigger heart and a better record.
Born on April 9, 1976 in Quartu Sant’Elena (Sardinia), Andrea Sarritzu debuted in the pro ranks in 1998 and compiled a record of 37 fights: 29 won (11 by KO), 4 drawn and 4 lost. From July 27, 2006 to May 3, 2008 he held the European flyweight crown. In 2002/3 he challenged twice WBO flyweight champion Omar Andreas Narvaez losing by split decision the first time and then getting a draw. Christophe Rodrigues has a record of 15 wins (just 2 within the distance), 15 losses and 3 draws.
Sarritzu is ranked 2 by the WBO, 4 by the IBF, 5 by the WBC and 14 by the WBA.
On the undercard, crowd favorite Luciano “Bazooka” Abis (26-1-1) will fight Estonian Albert Starikov (13-11-1). The show will be opened by four promising boxers: welterweight Ottavio Di Leo, Italian featherweight champion Massimo Morra and cruiserweights Andrea Moretti and Emanuele Leo.
The card will start at 8.00 p.m. and will be broadcast live by national network Rai Sport Più starting at 10.35 p.m. The tickets are priced 25,00 euros and 15,00 euros.
