Legendary Universum trainer Fritz Sdunek will significantly reduce his coaching activities at the Universum boxing stable over the next months due to personal health reasons. Follows the advice his doctors, the hard-working Sdunek and will take time off to relax. Universum trainers Michael Timm, Magomed Schaburow and Artur Grigorian will continue the daily training sessions on behalf of Sdunek.
Fritz Sdunek: “I have received the immediate advice of my doctors, who were watching me and supervised the intense examinations, that I should take a break from my coaching and reduce it to a minimum. They have advised me to take a long holiday to recover from the stressful times. I have to listen of what my doctors say and to take heed of a warning as my current health condition isn’t the best so I will limit my coaching activities. Especially after my cancer diagnosis 18 months ago and the following heart problems I felt the reaction of physiological stress. I had intense training and fight preparations in the summer and autumn with Alexander Dimitrenko, Karoly Balzsay and Vitali Klitschko, when I had in parts stays abroad which took a lot of my energy. I feel morbid, tired and not 100% fit as fact that my doctors have confirmed. I have to think of nothing but oneself and of my family. I’m not in my fifties anymore!“
Universum-Chef Klaus-Peter Kohl: “Fritz Sdunek has always admirably stayed focused on his athletes and on Universum Box-Promotion even during his hard treatment time. We have tried during this times to talk to him and tell him to cut it down a bit in order for a full recovery. He rested too little and continued with nearly unconditional focus on his coaching activities. Now it is up to us and the doctors to give him some time off and to rest. Our coaching staff has immediately confirmed they’ll assist and support Fritz Sdunek from now on in all the activities. The highest priority in life is our health and Fritz needs to focus on this. We thank him for his great commitment and we will support him in whatever he needs to recover!”
