One month before the biggest fight of his career, Giovani Segura is right on track to make the 108 pound limit for his unification bout against Ivan Calderon. Segura weighed in at 113 pounds today, nine pounds under the limit of 124. Segura will put his WBA junior flyweight world championship belt up against Calderon’s WBO junior flyweight championship belt on Saturday, August 28 at the Coliseum Mario Quijote Morales in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, the hometown of the long time Puerto Rican champion.
“It’s my dream fight an icon like Calderon and it’s a great honor for me, but at the same time, I’m not intimidated to go to his hometown for this fight. It will be a battle of wills and my power will be the difference,” said Segura.
His manager Ricky Mota is very confident that Segura will be up to the challenge.
“It’s all we’ve been talking about since he became a world champion and I know how hard he is working to be ready to win this battle,” said Mota.
Calderon vs. Segura is being distributed in the United States by Integrated Sports Media for live viewing at 9PM EST / 6PM PST on both cable and satellite pay-per-view via On Demand, DIRECTV, Avail-TVN and DISH Network.
