Former IBF world champion Paulie “Magic Man” Malignaggi (30-4, 6 KOs) travels to the Donbass Arena in Donetsk, Ukraine, to take on unbeaten reigning WBA welterweight world champion Vyacheslav Senchenko (32-0, 21 KOs) on Sunday. There is a lot riding on this fight for Paulie. If he is able to win a world championship in a second weight class, it’s a certainty that he would defend the belt on the first ever boxing card at the new Barclays Center in his hometown of Brooklyn, New York.
The undefeated Senchenko won the vacant WBA welterweight in an April 2009, pinning the first loss on then-unbeaten interim titleholder Yuriy Nuzhnenko. He has since made three successful defenses – all in Donetsk. The WBA #2 Malignaggi will give Senchenko much needed worldwide exposure and credibility against a well established name.
There are three other 12-rounders scheduled.
Unbeaten WBA #9 rated Iago Kiladze (18-0, 12 KOs) takes on Julien Perriaux (15-8, 8 KOs) for the WBC inter-continental cruiserweight championship.
WBA #12 and EBU #1 featherweight Oleh “Doctor” Yefimovych (21-2, 11 KOs) faces Sergio Carlos “El Tigre” Santillan (29-11-3, 14 KOs) for the WBA inter-continental featherweight championship.
2004 Ukrainian Olympian Volodymyr Kravets (25-1, 15 KOs) defends his IBC light welterweight belt against Abdoulaye Soukouna (14-10-6, 1 KO)
